Nothing quite beats Door County in spring. While the summers are sometimes be hot at times (despite our notorious reputation for the “air conditioned” climate in northern Wisconsin), our springs will treat you with pleasantly cool weather (meaning pack layers of clothing for schizophrenic changes in temperatures). Sister Bay is the perfect springtime escape for those anxious to see spring awakening on the peninsula. The spring warm-up makes exploring the area much easier – whether you’re walking around the village, going on a hike, or witnessing the emergence of wildflowers all around the county (daffodils in abundance everywhere, lady slippers along the trails in Peninsula State Park and The Ridges Sanctuary). Easter weekend is an especially fun time locally. There will be all kinds of activities around the area, but make a special note to attend the family events in Sister Bay. On Saturday, April 20th, at Waterfront Park in Sister Bay, children will hunt for colored eggs, according to age group. As in years past, there will be an appearance from the Easter Bunny. The library will have a table set up for kids to do crafts after the egg hunt. The Easter Bunny may even come check out those crafts. Restaurants around town will be having Easter dining specials, and after dinner, head to the shoreline for a spring sunset. Our off season rates still apply to Easter weekend dates, so give us a call at 866-854-7195 for reservations. You may reserve on-line at www.birchwoodlodge.com. When you head up here on the highway past Green Bay, and see the highway sign that says you are entering Door County, do what thousands of other visitors to at that marker and exhale loudly, as if to say, “At last, winter is over!”
