If you’re a fan of reality TV shows, you may have viewed a program called Hotel Impossible on the Travel Channel. This show features struggling hotels that receive an extensive makeover by veteran hotel operator, Anthony Melchiorri and his team. As described by Wikipedia, “Each episode features a hotel having problems or not having the kind of success that it should. Anthony Melchiorri secretly scouts each property and identifies its biggest problems. He then meets with the staff, from front desk clerks to housekeeping to the owners themselves, to determine the key operation issues. After creating a new plan for physical, cosmetic, and procedural changes with his designer, Melchiorri works with the staff and revamps the hotel.” Recently, Anthony Melchiori and his crew stayed at Birchwood Lodge in Sister Bay. When he arrived for check-in, he was recognized by some of our front desk staff and when asked why he was coming to Birchwood Lodge, he said, “I always check the internet for travelers’ reviews and ratings about some of the top hotels in the area where we will film. Your hotel was highly recommended and this is the place where the crew and I planned to stay.” As he walked around the lobby and checked some of our public areas, he said, “This is nice.” We appreciate the compliments that we received from such a notable hotel facilities expert. Come on up to Door County and see for yourself why Anthony Melchiorri was so impressed with Birchwood Lodge. By the way, if you’re interested, the hotel under scrutiny in Door County is located in Baileys Harbor and will be featured in a Hotel Impossible episode in November of this year.
