When cabin fever sets in this winter, think of the fun you’ll have with a getaway to Door County. With recent snowfalls and brisk temperatures, conditions are perfect for some wintertime activities up here where the snow is clean and the air is fresh. If you have never tubed, sledded or toboggoned down Hill 17 at Peninsula State Park, then let this be the year for a new adventure. If sledding isn’t for you, try hiking the many trails on snowshoes, or glide through the woods on groomed, cross country ski trails. Bring your own sledding equipment, or, you can rent tubes, sleds, snowshoes and cross country skis at nearby stores. We can even assist you with a snowmobile rental if you’d like a little more adventure. The outdoor ice rink in Sister Bay is another great place to get some refreshing outdoor exercise. Rental skates are available there and the warming house is open during rink hours. After all of that exercise, head back to the Birchwood Lodge in Sister Bay to warm up and relax in front of the fireplace in your suite, or take a soothing bath with a calming fragrance in the double whirlpool tub. How about a swim in our heated indoor pool and if you’re still a little sore from exercising, sit in the pool room sauna to ease your muscles. For added winter enjoyment, many area restaurants now offer special winter entrees and hot specialty drinks. After dinner, enjoy a DVD movie, or, check out some board games from the front desk and we can even provide popcorn or send a pizza to your suite. Winter is a great season to escape to Door County and we’ll be happy to accommodate your needs and requests at Birchwood Lodge. Check out our website for specials and packages to enhance your visit.
