Despite the late start to spring weather, and the cool summer, Door County’s cherry crop is ripe for picking now. Cherry orchard owners have their crews out in the fields with the “shakers”, gathering the crop for sale as whole fruit, or, processing the cherries for juice, pie filling, jams, and cherry salsa. If you’re a “do-it-yourself kind of person”, there are places where you can go and pick your own cherries. A pick your own cherry orchard locations near Birchwood Lodge is Lautenbach’s Orchard and Winery in Fish Creek, and Seaquist Farm Market, just north of Sister Bay, has a wide variety of cherry products. Come on up to Door County, there is an abundant crop of cherries awaiting to delight you.
