It’s Yoga Time Again At Birchwood Lodge In Sister Bay

Once again, beginning in May, 2012, Certified Yoga Instructor, Marcia Hoebreckx will be conducting Yoga sessions at Birchwood Lodge in Sister Bay. Our lodge guests, visitors and community members are invited to participate in these four weekly sessions. Sign-up is required and can be done at the first session. Fees are $!0 per session, or $40 for five sessions. All yoga sessions are free for Birchwood Lodge guests.

Sessions begin: Tuesday, May 22–Yoga Basics, 7:30 to 8:45 AM.

Tuesday, May 22–Beginners Series, 9:15 to 10:15 AM .

Wednesday, May 23–Yoga Basics, 8:00 to 9:15 AM

Thursday, May 24--Yoga Basics, 7:30 to 8:45 AM

Thursday, May 24--Yoga for Stiff Guys, (focus on hips, hamstrings

and shoulders) 9:15 to 10:15 AM

Friday, May 25–Yoga Basics, 8:00 -9:15 AM

Beginning Drop-in Class, 9:30 to 10:30 AM

(This session really starts with beginning moves/poses)

Intermediate Yoga, 5:00 to 6:15 PM

Birchwood Lodge Connects Guests With Massage And Wellness Services

Beginning in May, 2012, the Wellness Center of Door County will be providing massage services in the Champeau Art Gallery, just a short walk from Birchwood Lodge. Door County Half Marathon Shuttle Schedule

Pick up at Birchwood Lodge is scheduled at 8:00 a.m. Additional shuttles depart continuously from Gibraltar School and the Skyway Drive-In theatre beginning at 8:00 a.m. until the last pre-race shuttle at 9:15 a.m. New this year is a spectator bus leaving the Skyway Drive In theatre at 10:15 a.m. Return shuttles will leave Peninsula State Park beginning at 11:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Enjoy the race and stay safe!

There’s A New, Fresh Appearance In The Suites At Birchwood Lodge In Sister Bay

As the winter season begins to wind down, thoughts of spring clean-up usually come to mind. In the waning days of March this year, on our “Things To Do” list was the re-painting of all of our suites and the main lobby area at Birchwood Lodge in Sister Bay. We are grateful to Door County Improvements Professional Painting Company for doing such a great job. We’d be happy to provide references for their services. Guests coming up for spring and summer events and activities in Door County will find a refreshing, brighter appearance in our suites, just another of the many things we do to keep Birchwood Lodge looking its best for the satisfaction and approval of guests.

Birchwood Lodge Will Host Marathon Runners And Fans At The Post-Race Celebration.

Are you coming up to Door County to participate in the the 5th annual Door County Marathon on May 5, 2012? Even if you’re not a runner, the participants and their supporters are all invited to the 5th anniversary post-race party. Husby’s Food & Spirits and the Sister Bay Bowl will host a post-race party with live music, food, and fun in downtown Sister Bay on race day. After the awards ceremony at Nicolet Bay following the race, festivities move to Sister Bay beginning at 1 pm, when Husby’s will host live music and a tent at the Garage Bar beer garden they opened last year. Later in the evening the Sister Bay Bowl is hosting live music across the street as well. Marathon runners can still take advantage of the special, discounted rate for for that weekend and then walk to the party from Birchwood Lodge. We are the closest lodging facility to the celebration festivities. Guests can just stroll down to the party without having to drive a car. So come for the run and stay for the fun and relax from it all at Birchwood Lodge.

What’s New and Improved At Birchwood Lodge In Sister Bay?

February and March are quiet months in Door County, but at Birchwood Lodge, we take advantage of the time to make some modifications to our facilities in preparation for the busy season. While other hotels and lodges across the county simply maintain the status quo, we aim to stay ahead of the competition by offering guests the best lodging opportunities. “New and improved” aren’t terms we use loosely. Every year we add new items for the pleasure and comfort of guests. We always strive to improve in those areas that guests have suggested. If you happened to be at Birchwood today, you’d detect the scent of cleaning products and paint wafting throughout the building. Our hardworking housekeeping crew has performed deep cleaning in every guest suite and common area to make the entire lodge sparkle. New paint brightens walls in every suite and the lobby, new carpeting has been laid in rooms, all beds and pull-out sleeper sofas have new, comfortable mattresses, new flat screen televisions have been installed, new couches have been purchased for the lobby and a new breakfast eating area has been created. We have improved recreation opportunities with the addition of a game/TV lounge, added a ping-pong table and Blongo Ball game for indoor use and purchased more board games for the enjoyment of guests. Take A Dip In The Lake In Winter, The Water Is Fine

If you’re like most people who visit Door County in winter, you may be seeking the picturesque beauty of a snowy landscape in Peninsula State Park with a snowshoe hike on a scenic trail, or some other outdoor adventure. Maybe you’re the more daring type who wants to try an exciting activity, like taking a dip in Lake Michigan. You read that right, taking a dip in the lake. Don’t shudder. There are some people who enjoy outdoor swimming all year long, yes, even in Door County. The winter season this year has been moderate and relatively snow-less, so water temps haven’t been as low as some years. But you ask, are there really people who swim in the lake in winter? Yup! One person who recently did that came here from Europe, not only to swim in Lake Michigan (unlike the people who merely run in and out of the water at the New Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim in Jacksonport), but primarily to visit with his friends, the Collak family. Roman Collak is the General Manager of Birchwood Lodge in Sister Bay. Noro Skorvarga, Roman’s friend from Slovakia, had heard Roman describe our cold Door County, Wisconsin winters, and decided to come here for a visit. As long as he was coming to see his friends, he decided that he would take swim in the lake, just as he does in a lake or river three times a week back home. He initially stopped at Niagara Falls, New York for a swim, but he feared he would be arrested for such an attempt. Now some people might question or doubt Noro’s motive for swimming in frigid, icy water. He’s been doing it for a year and claims that it has contributed to his good health and stamina. So, on a sunny but cold morning in the middle of February, Noro went to Baileys Harbor for a morning swim in the lake, along with Roman, who stayed on shore to photograph his adventurous friend. On another day, Noro swam up near “Death’s Door” . Do you think you might want to try Noro’s winter regimen? Here’s his advice: Start by taking cold showers every morning, even in winter, to build up your tolerance to cold temperatures. If you do that every day, Noro says, “You’ll come to love it. It will energize you for the rest of your day. ” It is a good year round activity that you can perform even at a temperature of -8 degrees Fahrenheit. Some of you might question his motives. It is very simple, Noro explains: ou can pay the doctors and pharmacies or you can go for a swim. And I have decided to go for a swim.” Does that sound like something you’d like to try? Not so much? Well, this idea may be more your speed. Just settle into one of our beautiful suites at Birchwood Lodge and ponder the possibilities. As you relax in your private, double whirlpool tub, imagine (pity) Noro as he yells through a hole in the ice, ” Come on in! The water’s fine!”

Come On In! Our Heated Swimmimng Pools At Birchwood Lodge Will Help Take Away The Chill

The indoor and outdoor swimming pools at Birchwood Lodge in Sister Bay get a lot of use by guests throughout the year. The outdoor pool is especially attractive during the summer months as a place for guests to cool off, relax and lounge along the deck. Our indoor, heated swimming pool is a favorite spot for recreation, regardless of the season. Even on the coldest, snowiest days in winter, the indoor pool provides a welcome respite from the winter chill. Aside from swimming and water exercise, guests often ask us if we can provide toys and games for use in the pool. We now have water a volleyball game and a water polo set that guests may borrow. Of course, as is the case with most common recreation areas, these games are to be used with the understanding that they are not to interfere with the pool activities of other guests. We have also added some items for purchase that guests may use in our pools including, beach balls, spaghetti floats, inner tubes, goggles, earplugs, diving sticks and inflatable safety arm bands. to our list
